Two Fun Holiday-Season Events Planned At NK’MIP Resort

The South Okanagan’s luxurious Nk’Mip Resort isn’t waiting for late-December to start its fun holiday festivities. In mid-November it will host two special events designed to get people in the holiday mood, pampering them with great wine, sumptuous food, spa treatments, and a sparkling early Christmas celebration.

On Nov. 18 the Osoyoos-area destination will launch its dazzling 2nd Annual Nk’Mip Resort Festival of Trees. And on the same weekend, Nov. 18-20, it will host ‘Champagne & Stockings’ – a Ladies Spa & Shopping Weekend Getaway.

Nk’Mip Cellars Guest Services Manager Jennifer Busmann says the fun-filled ‘Champagne & Stockings’ event will offer women a special weekend full of activities: a relaxing two-night stay in luxury suites at Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort; an array of Okanagan and Boundary area artisans, clothing and other vendor booths for holiday-themed shopping in the nearby Nk’Mip Conference Centre; wine and food pairings featuring Nk’Mip Cellars and the Great Estates of the Okanagan wines and celebrity guest chef Dave Ryan (of Culinary Team Canada); a fashion show; a ‘cocktail dress’ dinner; a charity “used purse” charity donation activity; a “swag bag” stocking full of goodies; and thousands of dollars worth of prizes. And the Solstice Spa is located right in the Spirit Ridge main lodge.

“On top of all that, the ladies will be the first to view this year’s impressive Festival of Trees display, with up to 40 beautifully decorated trees and our 50-ft-tall Tree of Hope,” Busmann says. She notes that up to 200 women are expected to take in the ‘Champagne & Stockings’ weekend fun. The two nights accommodation and all events are included in the $225-per-person price. “It is a great opportunity to play in your own backyard – explore what the South Okanagan has to offer!”

Following last year’s Inaugural Nk’Mip Resort Festival of Trees, this year the Resort will host this sparkling holiday event for seven weeks – Nov. 18 to Jan. 8. Each year the province-wide Festival of Trees event transforms hotel lobbies in a number of B.C. communities – including Vancouver, Victoria and Port Alberni – into forests of beautifully decorated trees to raise funds for charities.

The Nk’Mip event benefits the B.C. Children’s Hospital and the South Okanagan Children’s Charity. Last year more than 1,200 people visited the Nk’Mip Resort Festival of Trees and nearly $10,000 was raised for the two charities.

Each nine-foot-tall artificial spruce tree is sponsored and decorated by an area business or organization, for a cost of $250. The sponsor gets significant mention in the event’s advertising, the opportunity to distribute promotional gifts at the Opening Reception, and tickets to the Opening and Wind-Up Receptions. Busmann says this year’s Festival will also feature a spectacular 50-foot-tall South Okanagan Children's’ Charity Tree of Hope in front of Spirit Ridge and Nk’Mip Cellars winery, where people can sponsor strings of lights.

The public is invited to come and view the trees for free in the Spirit Ridge main Lodge building and NK’MIP Cellars Winery – and for a minimum $2 donation they can vote for their favourite decorated tree. For donations over $25 tax-receipts will be issued. Nk’Mip Resort will award prizes for the three trees that earn the most votes and donations for charity.

The schedule for the Festival of Trees includes: Nov. 17: Decorating Day; Nov. 18: Displays Open; Nov. 26: Grand Opening (afternoon and evening festivities); Jan. 8: Displays Close (8 p.m.); Jan. 9: Undecorating Day & Wind-Up Reception.
