Top Chef Canada’s Jamie Hertz joins Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & SpaNew Executive Chef and new direction for Okanagan wine country restaurant

OSOYOOS, BC (December 2, 2013) - Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa is thrilled to welcome former Top Chef Canada contestant Jamie Hertz to the restaurant as the new Executive Chef. Hertz is working on bringing The Restaurant at Spirit Ridge, previously Mica, into the Bellstar family and has planned a new menu that makes the most of the resort’s beautiful wine country surroundings.
“The Okanagan is a dream location for a chef to work in,” says Executive Chef Hertz. “I want to celebrate the local produce as much as possible and I can’t wait to meet farmers in the area. Spirit Ridge is closely tied with the Osoyoos Indian Band and I think it’s hugely important to bring that connection to the table. The First Nations people have a respect for the land like no other, so we look forward to celebrating that.”
Ontario-born Chef Hertz studied at Dubrulle Culinary School in Vancouver before working at Vancouver restaurants including Wedgewood Hotel under Chef Frank Dodd, C Restaurant under Chef Robert Clark and Long Beach Lodge in Tofino and Vancouver’s Le Crocodile. At the age of 25 he opened and operated Fusion Bistro in Nelson, BC. After seven successful years at the bistro, and an appearance on Top Chef Canada in 2011, Chef Hertz began his relationship with Bellstar at the Kokanee Springs Golf Resort.
Chef Hertz fell in love with the beauty of Spirit Ridge and his plan for the restaurant’s new fall and winter menu is to bring comfort food to the resort, whilst still retaining a creative edge and making the most of flavourful local produce to create rustic yet classy food.
The team at Bellstar Hotels & Resorts has an impressive history of hotel and restaurant management experience - President and COO Ralf Strub has over 30 years of international and Canadian hospitality industry experience, working in food and beverage management positions around the world before joining the Bellstar family.
