Bellstar Resorts Chosen as Employer Of Choice
Top Human Resources Practices recognized by Alberta Hotel & Lodging AssociationFor Immediate Release
April 08, 2008
Bellstar Hotels & Resorts was honored today with four key industry
awards as Employer of Choice for best Human Resource Practices at
Canmore-based resorts by the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association
(AHLA). Presented at the 88th Annual AHLA Convention and Tradeshow in
Lake Louise, the awards recognize Bellstar for outstanding human
resource practices implemented at all levels of the organization. Out
of a total of seventy nominees and sixteen awards, Bellstar garnered
four for Mystic Springs Chalets & Hot Pools, Fire Mountain Lodge, The Lodges at Canmore and Canmore Crossing.
The AHLA designation is based on a comprehensive and confidential HR
audit that includes four months of extensive background information and
research and direct employee surveys. AHLA outlines that the HR audit
"is an opportunity to see if programs and policies are working the way
they were intended to and to find out if there are new legislative
requirements that need to be incorporated into the workplace." The
award challenges tourism organizations to constantly improve and hone
HR practices that ultimately impact business success.
"We are proud to receive this award as recognition of our dedication to
our talented team of managers and front line staff," says Manager of
People and Operational Standards, Tara Keller. "This offers Bellstar
the opportunity to increase awareness of our resorts provincially, draw
attention to the service levels we offer, and act as a strong
recruiting and retention tool for all levels of staff."
"In today's work environment with high employee turnover and shortages
being the norm in Alberta," says Bellstar's VP of Operations, Kelly
Tingley, "these awards are a tremendous honour."
Bellstar has seen unprecedented growth in new resort management
acquisitions and development. Seeing a need to adapt to the growth,
Keller created a series of tools as a resource for operational success
with employees in the workplace. The program includes detailed policies
and procedures on training and development, recruiting, including job
descriptions and behavioral-based interview guidelines, payroll and
benefits, Bellstar’s foreign worker program, workplace health and
safety and others relating to the management of Bellstar’s people.
Calgary-based Bellstar develops and manages resort properties in
British Columbia and Alberta. Its collection includes 13 resorts in the
Okanagan Valley, Kootenays, Vancouver Island and Canmore. www.bellstar.ca
